Frances River Canoe Adventure

This river journey begins at a Wilderness Lodge near Williams Lake, where the Frances River runs directly out of Frances Lake. Enjoy great fishing and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities, including eagles and moose, while enjoying distance views of the Pelly and Logan Mountains.

After four days on the river, you will return to the lodge - your base from which to explore the incredible, remote beauty of this area - and your own cosy log cabin. The lodge boasts an awesome view of the Logan Mountains and also features a bright and comfortable living room equipped with a small library

About the lodge

The lodge is situated in beautiful southeastern Yukon on a secluded lake nestled in the northern foothills of Canada's famed Rocky Mountains. Accessible only by water or air, the lodge offers a true respite from traffic, computers, headlines, and other stresses of modern-day life. Flora and fauna abound and the surrounding wilderness teems with wildlife invites exploration.

The Lodge's location near the site of the first Hudson's Bay Company trading post in the Yukon gives the lodge a rich historical resonance. One of the original Hudson's Bay cabins is rebuilt on the site of the Lodge and used as a guest cabin. Let the spirit and hardship of the early fur traders touch your soul.

The lodge consists of the main log cabin and five lovingly-crafted log guest cabins. Meals are served in the main lodge - where our chef will gladly prepare your catch for dinner - and guests are welcome anytime to peruse the many northern books in the library or simply relax in the bright, cozy living room. Guest cabins strike the perfect balance between rustic pleasures and modern comforts: wood stoves and kerosene lamps provide heat and light the old-fashioned way, yet each cabin is equipped with portable flush toilets and comfortable beds with fresh linen and warm quilts. All guest cabins afford beautiful lake views and are within easy walking distance of the main lodge. Guests - and there are only a few at a time - also have access to hot showers and a four-person sauna located in a separate log building.

River Difficulty: Class I with some Class III rapids

Paddling Experience: Some paddling experience is necessary.

Itinerary

Whitehorse to Frances Lake
We pick you up at your hotel in Whitehorse and drive the famous Alaska Highway to Frances Lake (620km). From here, we take you on a 30-minute boat ride to the lodge. (Or, if you arranged to see the Yukon from the air, our float plane delivers you to the lodge from either Whitehorse or Watson Lake.) At the lodge, your hosts will show you to your own cozy log cabin—your base from which to explore the incredible, remote beauty of this area—before inviting you to the main lodge for a flavourful and hearty dinner. The lodge boasts an awesome view of the Logan Mountains and also features a bright and comfortable living room equipped with a small library.

Canoeing Frances River
Our paddling adventure starts right from the lodge, where the Frances River runs directly out of Frances Lake. Enjoy great fishing and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities, including eagles and moose, while enjoying distance views of the Pelly and Logan Mountains. After four days on the river, you will return to the lodge for additional two nights.

To Whitehorse
Unfortunately you will have to leave this wonderful place. The lodge boat will return you to the boat ramp, where you will be driven back to Whitehorse on the famous Campbell and Alaska Highways.
