Nisutlin River Canoe Adventure

Starting from the Pelly Mountains, the Nisutlin River is one of the few southerly flowing rivers in the Yukon River watershed. As you paddle through the beautiful southern lakes region, you'll admire the vast wilderness and have lots of time to cast your hook for “the big catch” of lake trout, northern pike or arctic grayling.

The Nisutlin River is gentle flowing and picturesque, suitable for inexperienced people. This surrounding landscape, with its low wetlands, is known for its great moose population and is the summer home for many species of migratory birds and waterfowl. This is a great river for any outdoor enthusiast.

Itinerary

Whitehorse
Individual arrival in Whitehorse. Meet your guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel. In the evening you will meet the group members and the guide will talk about details of the tour and answers any remaining questions.

Whitehorse to Nisutlin Landing
The following morning we meet and drive around three hours via the Alaska Highway to our put in at Nisutlin Landing. The afternoon will be spent getting acquainted with our gear and boats and paddling the mouth of the river. A relaxing evening will be spent on the river shore complete with a roaring campfire.

Canoeing Nisutlin River
Our paddling adventure down the Nisutlin River begins.
The extensive delta of shifting sand of Nisutlin Bay provides a feast of aquatic plants to migrating waterfowl in the fall. They attract birds of prey and other predators in great numbers. Trumpeter and Tundra swans, Canada and White-fronted Geese, Mallard, American Widgeon and Barrow's Goldeneye are only a few species that moult in the bay and stage there in fall. Peregrine Falcon, fox, coyote, wolf, grizzly bears and moose are frequently seen here.

The river also offers excellent fishing opportunities for Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Arctic Grayling. The Nisutlin River is gentle flowing and picturesque as you paddle through the Yukon’s amazing landscape!
Camping in tents and eating by the campfire while under the “midnight sun”, provides the foundation for a truly unique wilderness experience.

Teslin Village to Whitehorse
At the end of your paddling adventure we arrive in Teslin Village at beautiful Teslin Lake. A shuttle will pick us up in the early afternoon and returns us to Whitehorse. Overnight accommodation in Whitehorse. Transfer shuttle to the airport.
