Interested in aboriginal culture? You should take this day tour. In Tuktoyaktuk you will stay with your Inuvialuit host family and tour guide for 4-5 hours. Your guide will give an extended tour of the community including interpretation on the communitypermafrost "Ice-House", and an opportunity to visit the craft, carving and gift shop. Learn about the modern Inuvialuit and how they maintain their cultural ties to the past. At your host's home you will hear stories about life in the Arctic and enjoy a traditional meal of caribou soup & bannock. Have your photograph taken in a traditional skin parka before visiting the family dog team or fish smoke house. Enjoy the scenic flight from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Upon landing, in Tuktoyaktuk your guided tour is by van or bus and makes many stops including a chance to: photograph historic sites like the Lady of Lourdes schooner, traditional sod house, and churches. Identify birds and flowers, visit a dog team, see the DEW Line site and the start of the Trans-Canada trail. Your local guides will share their Inuvialuit culture with you. An opportunity to visit the craft, carving and gift shop can also be arranged. Of course there will be time for a polar bear swim or a traditional Arctic Ocean toe dip. We go to the Western Arctic Visitor Centre, other must see stops are the Community Greenhouse, the Igloo Church and Ingamo Hall. Imagine a tundra coastal plain where caribou migrate enroute to calving grounds each year. A landscape cut by the northern tip of the Rocky Mountain Range and a land edge by the massive waters of the Arctic Ocean. Amongst the wildlife also live the Inuvialuit people who hunted from both sea and land for centuries. You can travel into this vast wilderness now protected by two park systems, Herschel Island, Yukon Territorial Park, and Ivvavik National Park.
