About Blachford Lake Lodge
|
As the premiere remote fly-in lodge in the Northwest Territories, we are dedicated to service. We are the only full season lodge in the vicinity of Great Slave lake. Only twenty minutes south of Yellowknife by bush plane, the lodge is ideally situated for anyone seeking a remote northern adventure. Guests from around the world take in the splendour of the great Canadian Taiga all year long.
Accommodation
The fly-in lodge, was started in 1981 and is proudly locally owned and operated. The resort sits at the west end of a remote 17 kilometre long lake, just north of the east arm of Great Slave Lake. Accommodations for 35 include 5 rustic but comfortable log cabins and a main lodge with full bathroom facilities. A traditional 18' teepee, BBQ and picnic area, and open decks are available for various activities. Guests can enjoy our sauna and outdoor hot tub.
The post and log building is filled with light and breeze in summer and in winter the warm scent of the wood fires heat the lodge to perfect comfort. The main lodge is the only lodge in the Northwest Territories with full service facilities in winter and summer, including hot showers and running water, full electricity, fully stocked bar, and a high calibre chef providing gourmet meals.
Lodge bedrooms are dressed with down duvets. The lounges are filled with comfortable furniture. There are also five rustic but comfortable cabins, comprising the 'Old Town' area of the facility. The cabins can host from four to five people each in bunk style accommodations. Cabins are heated with wood fireplaces, and have propane lights and a great view of the lake. There are outhouses located near each cabin, and the farthest is no more than a couple of minutes walk from the main lodge where full washroom facilities are available 24 hours per day.
Activities
Winter is undoubtedly the best time for viewing the northern lights. The lodge has virtually no light pollution to hinder the experience of the awesome auroras. You can enjoy nature's fabulous light show. Take part in our Aurora Borealis Weekend and take full advantage of the luxurious lodge. Enjoy the light show from the dining room or one of the lounges. Soak outside in the bubbling hot tub or get cozy in bed while you watch the lights. It will be an experience you never forget! Some of the best northern lights can be seen in early winter, but any time the lights are out, the displays are spectacular.
During winter, you can go dog mushing, ice fishing, tobogganing on seal skins, sleep in the snow house, play hockey or skate on the ice rink, and of course, sauna or soak in the hot tub! Year round, you can take in Dene cultural experience that includes traditional hand games, drumming, and the story of the Dogrib people.
